Brandon Cherry Prepares For His Blue Belt

Brandon Cherry talks about his journey with jiu-Jitsu and how TRAPPbjj helped him prepare for his blue belt.

Brandon Cherry has been at Ground Control since 2013 as a Muay Thai Instructor.  In 2016 he started taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes.

What Has Your Journey Through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Been Like And What Have You Learned From It?

“I think the martial arts journey is unique to each individual person, and we all have different reasons for wanting to go down this path. My journey started when I was 18 and graduating high school. I always wanted to learn boxing, but when I was given the opportunity to try it, there was another combat sport being taught called San Shou.”

“I decided to try San Shou and that lead me down the path to Muay Thai. I fought competitively from 2006 – 2012 during this time I also decided to pursue college. It wasn’t until 2016 that I tried BJJ and fell in love with it. I had come to a cross roads in my life, because I realized that my actual career and my competition days could not go hand in hand, so for me jiu jitsu filled the void I was missing.”

What I Have Learned?

“Had it not been for martial arts I would have never made it through college. This lifestyle has taught me that hard work and dedication are all it takes to accomplish any goal. I have been able to apply the focus and discipline learned from this experience to my entire life. It also forces you to live in the moment, which is something most of us never get the chance to do.”
