Developed by the Gracie family, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is a martial art that uses leverage, technique, and strategy to defend against a bigger and stronger opponent. BJJ is one of the most effective martial arts for a multitude of reasons.
Muay Thai, sometimes referred to as “Thai boxing,” and known as the art of eight limbs, has been practiced in Thailand for hundreds of years. Muay Thai is a form of kickboxing that executes stand-up strikes using eight “points of contact” in combination with tactical clinches to gain leverage and advantage.
Boxing combines movements such as footwork, head movement and feigns to deliver powerful strikes. Proper footwork allows the boxer to keep their balance at all times and never be caught unexpectedly. By maintaining balance, boxers can deftly block and avoid incoming strikes, setting their opponent up for counter-strikes that the opponent never sees coming until it is too late.
At Ground Control Palm Beach, our kids classes teach the foundations of self-defense in a challenging and safe environment. We offer a variety of kid-focused classes. Kids will learn self-defense and bully-prevention methods while improving fitness.
In Women’s BJJ, we follow the same curriculum as in regular BJJ classes, but with special attention to dealing with size and strength discrepancies and building confidence to train in co-ed settings. Taught by Michelle Day — a BJJ brown belt who is certified in Trauma-Informed Care — the class is also more attentive to issues that disproportionately affect women, such as assault and abuse. The class creates a safe training environment for women to support and empower each other in building their BJJ and self-defense skills.
Our 45-minute high-intensity interval training class is designed to challenge your body and mind while you are surrounded by a positive, supportive community. Classes are programmed to move your body, jumpstart your metabolism, and help you achieve your fitness and performance goals. Our focus is on offering you a class that increases your functional strength, mobility, muscular endurance, and cardio ability, whether you’re looking to better your physical fitness and health or improve your mixed martial arts performance.
No experience needed. Our students range from beginners to seasoned black belts. Everyone here is happy to help new students learn the art we love. We establish strong fundamentals in beginner students before transitioning to live rolling to ensure classes are challenging, but safe.
